A century-old family home renovated to keep its character while working for how the family actually lives today.
The Brief
A multi-generational family wanted to update a bungalow that had been in the family for three generations, without erasing what made it feel like their family's home in the process.
Our Approach
Restore and highlight the original architectural details worth keeping, and be honest with the family about which parts of the house genuinely needed to change to work for modern daily life.
What We Did
- Preserved original flooring and window detailing in the front-facing rooms
- Reconfigured the rear of the house — where later additions had created an awkward layout — into a single open kitchen-and-family space
- Introduced modern wiring, plumbing and insulation without visibly modernizing the front rooms' character
- Sequenced the renovation room by room so the family could keep living in parts of the house throughout
The Result
The finished home keeps its heritage character where it matters most, at the front, while the rebuilt rear gives the family a functional, modern space for daily life.
